The story is like something out of a horror movie. After they took away his game, he asked them to close their eyes so he could give them "a surprise". His "surprise" was gun blasts from a 9mm handgun.
His mother died on the spot, his father managed to survive. Petric was tried as an adult, but was sentenced to 23 to life instead of the maximum life sentence his prosecutors were asking for.
He was sentenced today..
Just wondering what your thoughts are on this....SURPRISE!..no disrespect but i wonder if he was aiming for Headshots...just imagine
this is my first blog so mind your manners

This will be the only time I will say that the crazy persons motivation was a video game.
His parents forbade him to get it, and he did it anyway. I bet his parents are crazy oppressive "good folk" tried to teach their child right from wrong by denying him EVERYTHING.
That tends to drive people mad... Ever read "The Shining"

If he's going to kill his OWN PARENTS for taking away his game, he's obviously mentally unstable and shouldn't be playing games in the first place.

Stuff like this don't happen all of a sudden. This is probably a outcome of years of built up frustration that they gave the kid.
I know people that moved out of there parents house because they just couldn't handle there parents. They where all under 18 at the time so they had to get there emancipation but most did and are now living in there places and got kids of there own.

We don't know his parents were like that though. Maybe he just sat around playing the game all day and was flunking out of school and wouldn't do any chores. Besides, 90% of teenagers feel their parents are oppressing them in some way anyway.

I agree that we don't know if the parents were like that.. But we don't know they weren't either. Where he got the gun would be another question I would like answered.
Found this on an xbox site.
The other dangerous thing about these
games, in my opinion, is that when these changes occur, they occur in
an environment that is delusional. Because you can shoot these aliens,
and they're there again the next day. You have to shoot them again. And
I firmly believe that Daniel Petric had no idea, at the time he hatched
this plot, that if he killed his parents, they would be dead forever.

But regardless, that's just insane. I mean what has to be driven into someone's mind to make him kill (or attempt to kill) his parents just cause they wouldn't let him have a game? It's pretty screwed up.

I think he should have just shot them in their kneecaps so they would still be around to understand where they ****** up in being terrible parents.

The video game was probably the straw the broke the camels back, it could have been any other thing that other kids were free to do.
I know kids that have parents that "forbid" **** like video games. Mostly religious ***** that need to learn we don't have much time on this planet and freaking out over such a trivial thing as a video game will just waste their time and further degrade their life.
Killing them was the wrong thing to do, if I were in his situation the worst thing I would have done was slap a *****. I would have opted for the run away and start my own life route though.

Torture/death penalty without a doubt, taser him until he loses consciousness, once he awakens torch and throw the lil maggot to the lions.
He knew what he was doing and cared more about entertaining his cry-baby-bytch-self above the lives of his own flesh and blood-

We have to remember this is not some normal everyday rational person.
Your parents are the people from whom you learn about life. Imagine if you will, how you would react if you found out that EVERYTHING they told you was a lie.

They don't have head shots in Halo3 so most likely not
Also if a kid is willing to kill over a game being taken away, there was most likely something else. I don't think anyone would kill over Halo3 (one of the more average FPS games out there) I'm betting Halo3 being taken away was just the thing that made him snap.
